Episode 71 | The Unsolved Murder of Charline Rosemond, Somerville, Massachusetts (part one)

Part one with Charline's sister, Rose. It's a story that needs to be told.
Charline Rosemond was born February 5th, 1986 in Boston. One of six siblings. Charline and her younger sister Roserlie, who goes by Rose, are the youngest and the two siblings who share the same parents. The Rosemonds are a close family. The youngest daughters lived at home at the time Charline went missing, and it was incredibly hard for them. Still is. The family lived in Somerville for about five years before they moved to Everett, a smaller city about 4 miles away. I didn’t do a lot of work on this fun fact, but Ellen Pompeo, Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy, is from Everett. And Teddie Peanut Butter. 49,000 people in 2022 to Somerville’s almost 80,ooo. The Rosemonds lived near Union square & Mid Nite Convenience, about ten minutes away. The area where Charline would be found was familiar to them.

There isn’t a lot about Charline’s life available. I asked her sister Rose so I could tell a story about her, to add her presence. This story upsets me. Charline was killed, targeted maybe, and the person or persons who did this, who set her up are still out there. Charline was a driven and focused woman with big dreams, dreams that I have no doubt she would have achieved, outperformed - making way for what she would  accomplish next. A word her sister used about her is savvy. At 23, she’d mapped out her moves. I wish I could have been that motivated at 23. I was not.

In an attempt to try to illustrate the kind of person Charline was, a vibrant, light-up-the-room kind of woman, and I say that about absolutely no one, but you can see it in her photos. Always the best dressed in any room - to the nines. A kind smile.

Charline was a cosmetologist. She studied in high school as part of their vocational program. As a Somerville High grad, Class of 2004, she was able to take part in thier Career and Technical Education department (CTE) that offers programs in health care, childhood development, electrical engineering, carpentry, auto repair, advanced manufacturing, graphic communications, drafting, cosmetology, culinary arts, metal fabrication, and more. Trades are a game changer for many many kids, students, and young people. Do not scoff at trade school. Someone needs to know how things work, how to make them work when they stop, and how to perform services. It brings to mind the brilliant South park episode from last year where none of the men, dads, “business executives”  know how to do or fix anything so they’re desperate for the trades people. It’s called "You Call the Handyman" and of course I linked it below.
