Episode 30 | You're A Good Man, Phil Hartman with Brian Mulhern, comedy writer (part one)

Updated: 13 hours ago

If you’ve returned because you were waiting for new episodes. Thank you for your patience. If you are brand new here, welcome. I talk about New England crime stories and things that happened here, to the people here. This is a special episode because this crime did not happen in New England but its effects run deep. And you will hear inevitable dog noises, some from my crew, others from my guest's dog. Brian Mulhern is a friend, radio colleague, and friend of Phil Hartman who hired both Brian and his brother Kevin as comedy writers. They worked closely together for a few years before Phil passed away. Brian can be seen in The Last Days of Phil Hartman on ABC.

The story of Phil Hartman is a comedian's dream come true. A wildly talented performer, artist, and writer, his skills shone bright early in his entertainment career. A career that started when he was moved to get on stage after having a reasonably successful graphic artist. He quickly became a fixture with Groundlings, the star-making improv group that got its start in the 1970s in Los Angeles. He developed a friendship with Paul Reubens and the two created Pee Wee's Playhouse.

He joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1986, where he became a cast and fan favorite. After SNL, he is best known for his roles on The and News Radio.

On May 28, 1998, Phil was shot and killed in his bed. His wife Brynn shot and killed herself hours after murdering Phil.
